LEADERSHIP

The Spectrum Migrant Resource Centre is governed by a voluntary Board of Management, which is made up of 7 elected and 7 co-opted members. Our Board Members are individuals who bring skills from a variety of fields – academia, accounting, auditing, finance, health, IT, legal, local government – from the community and business sectors, both locally and internationally. They are passionate about improving the lives of migrants and refugees settling in Australia.

BOARD OF MANAGEMENT 2008

John Unger(Chairperson) was co-opted to the board in June 2006 and elected in December that year to serve as Chairperson. He is currently working at KPMG where he has run the Melbourne office's migration practice since 2000. John previously held positions within the Department of Immigration, the Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet and was seconded to the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. John has helped with the development of Spectrum's migration advisory service that started in 2007.
Chris Hoh(Vice Chairperson) was co-opted to the board in 2007. As a management consultant who specializes in strategic and business planning for Deloitte, he contributes his expertise in these areas at Spectrum. His experience in information communication technology (ICT) has also proven to be invaluable to the organisation.
Thomas Ling(Secretary) has been a member of the board since 2000. As a business logistic migration consultant he has contributed to the integration of newly arrived immigrants in the community and enhanced best practice in providing services to the migrants. Thomas’ financial and management skills help to ensure that Spectrum enjoys longevity and continues to provide critical services to migrants and refugees.
Sumith Perera(Treasurer & Public Officer) was co-opted to the board at the start of 2005 to assist the board in overseeing the financial policies and administrative systems. He has a broad range of valuable skills as a chartered accountant and the chief operating officer of Hall and Wilcox Lawyers.
Sarah Hayton(Board member) was elected to the board in 2006. She is a qualified solicitor who is involved in governance training in Indigenous communities. Sarah’s skills and knowledge inform several areas of service delivery at Spectrum including education, legal and employment services as well as the broader issues of governance.
Peta Domm(Board member) was elected to the board in 2008. She has been an ongoing member of Spectrum’s Ethnic Youth Council since 2006 and has been involved in coordinating community events and programs, including the Go with the FLOW-Leadership Programme and the Freedom of Art Expo.
  Gaetano Greco(Board member) was co-opted to the board in 2008. He holds the position of International Taxation Compliance Officer with the Australian Taxation Office and after hours he serves as an elected Councillor for Darebin City Council. Gaetano previously served on Spectrum’s board as Chairperson from 2002-2006. As a community activist he is also the Deputy Chair of the Ethnic Communities Council of Victoria and a member of the Italian Consular Advisory Committee for Victoria and Tasmania.
  Silvana Scibilia (Board member) was co-opted to the board in 2008. Silvana is the Learning Initiatives Coordinator (Indigenous Programs) at the Centre for Engagement in Vocational Learning at Swinburne University of Technology. She previously worked in the School of Social Sciences teaching students from CALD and international backgrounds. In the past Silvana worked extensively in the disability and health care sector with CALD communities, publishing several academic papers in this field. She is also a member of the Victorian Institute of Teaching Hearing Panel, an independent representative body of the teaching profession.
Lyndal Turner(Board member) was co-opted to the board in 2008. She is a qualified solicitor whose field of expertise is property and commercial law. Lyndal works as an associate lawyer with Frenkel Partners, who provided its pro-bono services in drafting the revised Constitution for SMRC.
Petrina Dorrington (Board member) was co-opted to the Board in 2008. She was Executive Director of Kids Under Cover for ten years and is a fellow of the Williamson Community Leadership Program. Petrina brings to Spectrum a pragmatic approach to working with government, community service organisations and corporates to deliver quality services to migrants as efficiently and effectively as possible. Petrina is currently consulting part-time in the not-for-profit sector in addition to various voluntary projects.
