Planned Activity Groups

SMRC is funded through the Department of Human Services’ Home and Community Care (HACC) program to provide both “core” and “high” level Planned Activity Group services to ageing people from ethno-specific backgrounds in the northern region of Melbourne.

The aim of Planned Activity Groups is to promote health ageing in ageing people and to limit social isolation that can often happen when a person becomes older. The ethno-specific nature of the programs allows these people to maintain their culture and to socialize with people who speak the same language and understand the same cultures and traditions.

Planned Activity Groups can often be the first point of access for people using aged care services. Many are reluctant to access services in their own home but find that the Planned Activity Groups meets their social needs without becoming invasive. It is also a venue for participants to learn more about what services are available.
